Here’s a piece of news from yesterday:

The cheerful figure skater from Tampere begins to market her hometown. The city of Tampere, Kiira Korpi and the Finnish figure skating association made an agreement which aims to support Kiira on her career and to enable Tampere to use her publicity value to enhance the positive image of the city.

City of Tampere can use Kiira’s name, image and statements on marketing, they believe Korpi is perfect figurehead for Tampere when presenting the city as a sports town.

Korpi will also be used as spokesperson for projects related to health and well-being, as well as on campaigns aimed to children, youth and students. Appearances and participations to campaigns are planned so that those will not distract her training and preparations for competitions.

According to Kiira Korpi more important than the financial support is the promise to enhance the training conditions. Better practice times and locker rooms will be tried to make available for also other young future stars in Tappara. Korpi’s home club is better known for ice hockey, but it also accompanies hundreds of figure skaters.
