Kiira in February 2010 issue of "Gloria"

I already uploaded these to the Forum, but in order to have the files stored also in this site, here they are again. There is an altogether 6-page article of her in this Finnish women’s/fashion magazine (+ cover). The article is mostly about Kiira’s presence in media, peoples’ perception of her, her image – also with a fashion viewpoint. Overall tone is quite positive, at least neutral, but there is very little input from Kiira herself – it doesn’t include proper interview, just few quotes. The pictures, however, are very nice – although to my liking, too much photoshopped.

Thanks for sharing. Totally agree about the photoshop comment, especially because if anyone doesn’t need to be ‘shopped, it’s Kiira.

Hi..the best one is the cover..the others are too much retouched..Kiira is the best when photographed naturally..as she is…just a light make up…

  • Actually, on 17th of January 2010 the new editor-in-chief of Gloria magazine, mr Sami Sykkö, was guest on Arto Nyberg’s talk show (where Kiira has also been long time ago). Sykkö’s interview wasn’t at all about Kiira, but there was the first issue of his magazine on the table, and Nyberg said that nobody will recognize who is on the cover but it is our figure skater Kiira Korpi. Then the talking switched to a view about how much photoshopping there can be in a fashion magazine, because of the talks about a law in France about should there be a “warning text” of photoshopped fashion pictures. Nyberg jokingly said that I wonder how much this cover has been photoshopped, and Sykkö said that actually not at all. All what is done is some color correcting of Kiira’s skin because of the lighting. I don’t know what the truth is but that’s what he said.

Thanks for the info, Taskinen. Actually, the cover looks very natural to me, too. But there is something unnatural (color correction / air brushing) especially on the photo where she is wearing that green outfit. The skin tone and shading on her face doesn’t seem right at all IMHO. Maybe something to do with printing process, too, I suppose. But yes, the cover looks great and natural.

  • Gianluca

I quote Roikale.the cover is fantastic..the skin is the same I saw by person..but the photos inside the magazines are more artificial.specially the one with the green dress…
It should be interesting the contents of the article…specially because Kiira speaks about herself as mediatic girl and also about her relationship with public..
She makes a little outing about her as girl not only as skater

Everything you see in magazines is photoshopped. The editor who said otherwise is lying.

Sami Sykkö made last year an article to magazine Taitoluistelu (Figure skating) about the costumes of ladies. He wrote that Kiira has always had beautiful and different costumes with good taste.

Btw, did you notice the little difference of her dress in EC’s FS costume? In Gloria photos she has the old model, with O cut in the front of her, in Tallin she had big V cut. I still don’t like that dressthat much but I’m getting used to it. It fits to Kiira and it wouldn’t fit to anybody else!

  • Roikale95

@Gianluca: I may transcribe the article at some point here, if there is interest. Right now, unfortunately, I don’t have time to do that, sorry. Maybe later.

@Anna: Well spotted(!) I had to check the video of her free skate in Tallinn to find the difference in the dresses, but you are absolutely right. There she used the V-cut version of the dress – seems to be identical otherwise.

I guess ladies’ eyes are more attuned to these kinds of details in ladies’ costumes :) I definitely would have NEVER noticed the difference unless someone pointed it out to me…

  • Anna

:) Something just hit my mind in EC that the dress doesn’t look the same it used to look. It actually looked that there’s something sparkling in the black skirt so I started to find different photos and videos of Kiira and also noticed the difference between the cuts. I wonder why they made the new cut – I can’t say why this new version would be better.

  • Gianluca

Probably this choose is made because more suitable and confortable for her..during jumps and skating….my opinion of course…. ;-)

  • Northeagle

Kiira appears also in new TV’s programs magazine “Iltalehden TV”
    http://www.iltalehti.fi/kampanja/tvjatti.shtml

  • Roikale95

Yes she does, Northeagle, nice photo. Only a short article with two photos inside the magazine.

The funny thing is that there are two tabloid TV-magazines in this country (one for each tabloid newspaper), and on the OTHER one this week, it is Laura Lepistö on cover(!). Those papers really seem to have taken these two skaters into their hearts… :) . They could have chosen any number of NHL hockey stars, who are going to the Olympics to represent Finland, or some ski jumpers or cross country skiers to feature on their covers, but instead they chose the two ladies figure skaters. And I don’t mind at all :)

  • Northeagle

Well, Roikale, nothing to compare, in my opinion…
    don’t you agree?

  • [b]If they were re-touched I can not say for sure they were not but her stockings are wrinkled any good Ps would have removed that for use by the client, they ruin the photo from a photography perspective but Kiira looks as we know beautiful.[b]

  • Roikale95

I’m not sure what you mean by “nothing to compare” so I can’t say whether I agree or not(?) There’s nothing to compare between Kiira and Laura? I don’t know how one should understand that… ( if I knew how to add a smiley with questionmark over its head, I’d place it right here :) )

Anyway, I personally like them both, can’t pick a clear favourite – I guess as far as the Olympics go, I wish the best possible skates *especially* to Kiira, because she has had more than her fair share of bad luck and near misses recently.

  • Gianluca

Anyone knows when Kiira and the Finnish team will leave for Vancouver?…

  • Roikale95

Gianluca, they will leave for Vancouver from Finland on Valentine’s Day, February 14th.

  • Northeagle

Roikale, my expression “nothing to compare” was referred to image of Kiira (and Laura) compared to those of “NHL hockey stars or ski jumpers or cross country skiers”… which one magazine would you buy?

  • Roikale95

Oh, thanks for explanation, Northeagle… makes sense. I thought you were referring to something about Kiira vs. Laura. I absolutely agree about “nothing to compare” between them two and those NHL players and the like – nothing photogenic in bruised up hockey faces ;)

And I bought them both… I try to collect every magazine with any Finnish figure skater on either cover or in a dedicated article inside. I certainly have missed some, but hopefully not too many.
