According to a Finnish journalist, Kiira will skip Japan Open 2011 due to leg pain.
The injury seemed not serious at all but they decided to skip the competition just to be safe.
No information on the official site of Japan Open yet.
She will start her season at Finlandia Trophy which will be held in 7-9 October at Vantaa, Finland.
Get well soon, Kiira!
Thanks for the information! Where did you find it? Hopefully her leg is fine.
I hope it heals fast and completely. Better that she skip competitions now and be healed in time for the bigger competitions later. Her health is the most important issue. I do not like to see skaters skate when they are injured nor do I like coaches that compell injured skaters to skate.
Well, this is the answer to my previous doubt: that’s why she will participate to Finlandia Trophy.
Because of this forfait.
I’ll be sincere: I think she took this decision also to avoid a long, long travel, and its jetlag: it seems quite strange that this injury appears serious enough to not compete in Japan, but not too much to be in Vantaa after only a week… kuitenkin, hyvä Kiira!
(P.S.: Damn Takashi, it’s destined that you couldn’t see her…)
Hi,
I found the official site announced the absences of Kiira and Evgeni Plushenko today.

Northeagle, what a tragedy for Japanese Kiira fans…
I’ll take all my chances to NHK trophy in November.
And yeah, Mike, her health is what we wish for the most.
Hope that Kiira compete in her best condition in Vantaa.
Anna, guess how 😉
Again, get well soon, Kiira!
Nebelhorn has started! The season is underway. I think Nebelhorn will go Mirai Nagasu Gold; Ksenia Makarova Silver; don’t know who will get Bronze. And Japan Open will probably go Czisny Gold; Ando Silver; Rochette Bronze (wonder if the typhoon will blow over). At Champs Camp the American girls were into triples and the men were into quads. The Americans are out to win this year. Alissa Czisny has 7 triples planned for her lp. She may be unbeatable.
Planned but jumping all of them…? Well, Alissa is one of my favourites and I really hope she can also handle with her nerves. Her SP and FS from last season have been one of my favourites ever – so smooth, so beautiful, so elegant. This season she is skating her program (I don’t remember which one) to Sibelius’ Valse Triste. Hopefully she has found the spirit of this very-well-known Finnish piece. I can only imagine Rahkamo-Kokko dancing it.
2,5 weeks left to Finlandia Trophy!
Interesting scores for the Ladies sp at Nebelhorn: Mirai Nagasu 1st with 58.38, then Gedevanishvili with 50.56 and Sarah Hecken with 49.07. Makarova is 6th, good program component scores, but she fell.
Nebelhorn went Nagasu Gold with 167.46, Gedevanishvili, Joshi Helgesson, and Ksenia Makarova withdrawn.
Message from Kiira on Japan Open site.

Dear Japanese fan.
It is sad for me to announce of my withdraw from Japan Open 2011 and Carnival on Ice 2011 due to the small injury on my foot occurred last week. Although my foot is surely getting better, I had some effects on my training and do not think that I can be ready to show my best performance on October 1st in Saitama Super Arena. Please understand how much I am disappointed of this injury at this last moment. However, I promise you that I will be back to Japan in the near future to show my performance to great skating fans in Japan.
A Kiira’s press conference is forecast for Friday 30th, about next Finlandia Trophy and upcoming season.
Yeah, I just met Elina from Aamulehti here in Tokyo and she told me the same information.
Maybe some stories on Finnish newspapers tomorrow.
Hih, thanks for the information! It’s always so fun when you guys around the world know much more about Kiira than me here in Finland 🙂
Yeah, Anna, fans are probably the best spy network in the world. –Governments tremble before us. It looks like Alena Leonova will be taking KIIRA’s place at the Japan Open, which is one day away. Now, since I’m such a great spy, I think Japan Open will go Czisny Gold, Ando Silver, Rochette Bronze, Meier 4th, Leonova 5th and Suzuki 6th. When Czisny has new programs, watch out!
Interesting–JAPAN OPEN went Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (Russia) GOLD with 118.59; Rochette with 112.74; Suzuki 112.46; Leonova 108.39; Czisny 107.64; Ando 88.11. So Ando, the Worlds champ, finished last with only 88.11. And it looks like Russia is back in action with new, young skaters. Ksenia Makarova has an injured hip from what I’ve read, so both KIIRA and Ksenia are out with injuries.
