Anyone of you guys, could explain the reason why Kiira appears in one event only?
I’m also very surprised. She is European silver medalist, after all!
Maybe ’cause she didn’t compete at Worlds? Could it be a valid reason?
If so, should be impossible getting Finals in Sochi…
I know Alissa Czisny is in only one event because of the torn labrum in her hip (re her meltdown at Worlds); the surgery takes four months to heal. Maybe they’re being tentative with Kiira also. Injuries…
There’s a changing of the guard this season. No one will ever replace Kiira. Kiira is the Finnish equivalent of Yuna Kim. But the Americans are betting the farm on Gracie Gold and Ashley Wagner. And The Russkis are showcasing Lipnitskaya and Tuktamysheva.
Rachael Flatt only got one assignment at Grand Prix, and Mirai Nagasu only got one assignment. Something’s up. I think the ISU is changing to the new, young breed of skaters coming up (Gold, Lipnitskaya, Tuktamysheva, Zawadski, etc).
Oh yeah, these new young ladies are good. I think Miki Ando, Mao Asada and Carolina Kostner are going to be in for a BIG SURPRISE!
ISU rules read:
“The skaters are seeded and invited to the Grand Prix of Figure Skating based on the results of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2012. Skaters who have placed 1 to 6 in each of the four categories are considered to be seeded and are assigned to two events. Skaters who have placed 7-12 at the ISU World Championships 2012 are selected for two ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events, and skaters with a high seasons best score as well as those placed in the top of the World Standings can also be invited. Medalists from the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships and the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final are guaranteed one spot.”
So, being actually n.5 in world’s ranking

means less than reaching n.12 (!) at last Worlds? Unbelievable… what kind of rules are these?
Good news! Alissa Czisny’s surgery for the torn labrum in her hip went well. She needs a 4 month recovery period, then Alissa, Gracie Gold and Ashley Wagner could podium at Worlds. Alissa could be like Kiira and do TV commercials while she’s resting.
